Crochet update and day's drive

I am officially up to date on my Granny-A-Day project! I have 28 at this very moment. Yeah! I had gotten pretty far ahead of myself at one point then I slowed down. My "Riley" blanket has 25 squares to date.
I went up to Denver to get more yarn for this blanket. That was a wild goose chase! I had to go to two different stores in the Denver area to find some. We'll just see how big this blanket gets before I get tired of hunting down the yarn.
I was playing this week with different stitches and different styles of granny's.
We took a drive up to our cabin yesterday to check on our boat. It's still there! haha! It was pretty icy on the pond.
We have it covered with a tarp.
We didn't walk much further than the bridge, so much snow.

When we got there our neighbor up the hill was leaving so we stopped to wave bye. He jumps out of his truck and yells that he was on his way to the hospital because he had a broken leg. Keith and I were both yelling "What?" as we walked closer to make sure we had heard him right. His wife was in the truck but apparently she doesn't know how to drive a manual. His ankle was pretty swollen and he said he could barely get his shoe back on after examining his foot. We don't have good cell phone reception down there so, they said they would call their son as soon as they could. Man! I hope it's not too bad. It reminds me of the time when my Mom broke her ankle back in 2001. She had to have a steel plate in her ankle, it was that bad!

Once we checked on the boat we went into Westcliffe, CO to eat lunch. We went to a cute place called Chappy's. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. They cook everything on wood burning fire behind the bar. Yum!
Since the trip up there is an hour and a half each way I did a lot of crocheting in the car!
This is a blanket I've been working on for a while and I'm finally picking it up again. And, Jasmine doesn't know about it. These are her school colors, blue and gold. It will be huge when it's finished! I am not sure how long I can keep it from her if when it gets HUGE!

Granny a day 16

I have been loving this Granny-A-Day project I started this year. Here is an update:
I randomly decided to use another color and made a square. I saw this "rose camo" and wanted to see what it would look like in a granny. I may do something with it at some point but I'm not sure what yet.

I realized that in doing the "Riley blanket" (I named it this because Ali inspired me too) I had said there were only eight combinations of this two colors with four rows on each. But, as I was moving on, I realized there were more.... Duh! So, I sat there and need to write them all down to see what I was missing.

Right now, I'm ahead. Including the rose camo one I have done 21 granny squares yet this month.

This weekend I went to three different stores that sell yarn to find the "white" color to continue. I bought it at Joann Fabrics so, I thought I would just special order it since I didn't see it on their shelves but they said it couldn't be special ordered because they had none in their warehouse. Ugh! I could have it transferred from another store but would have to pay shipping ($7). No thanks! They rattled off their other stores with some but they are all at least an hour away. So, I went to two more places but, no luck. So, today I am taking a road trip!
This is what I get for being cheap.

Granny -A-Day 2012

I started a new long term project! I am really excited about this!

I joined Granny-A-Day so by the end of the year I will have crocheted 366 granny squares. Since, I am pretty new to crocheting, in general, I thought that this would be a good way to practice what I've learned so far and also learn some new stitches.

I found out about this on the 9th of January so I had some catching up to do. I was trying to decide where to start and I remembered that I had bought these Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky yarns. One is called Pristine and the other is called Smoke Heather. I picked them up because I love how they feel. Super soft. At this point I've already gone through each of these skeins. Since I have a couple more in my stash I'll keep going but, I am cheap and when I'm done with these I may start something else while I wait to see if there is a good price on these again.

On the first day I just made 3 rows of each color while I was trying to figure out what direction I wanted to go. Then, it came to me.... I think I will just make a grey and cream blanket. I still keep thinking I may add some deep red as a trim at some point, we'll see.

So, I got to work. Between yesterday and today I got caught up since today is day 11 in the project. In bed last night I was thinking (since I had a root canal yesterday, I couldn't sleep but that's whole other story) about what I want from this and I am going to do the solid colors around the edges and the various two color options (which is 8 patterns) in the middle. I am doing the "join as I go" method which is new to me. I've always made a stack of squares and joined at the end but, I think I like this~

My soon to be blanket matches Riley!

Double baby shower

In late November I went to a double baby shower at work. Catie and Sierra were due a month apart but they had their shower together. Catie was due first on December 11th and Sierra was due on January 9th. Sierra ended up having her baby early because of complications but the babies were born two days apart on December 10th and 12th. Of course, I was rooting for the the 9th since yours truely had a birthday that day! Ugh! now I'm even older.

I, of course, decided to crochet them blankets. The first blanket was for Sierra, she had a baby girl. She choose the colors of pink and green. I love these colors. These were my wedding colors so, maybe that's why I'm partial! I made these granny squares four across and three down and it turned out a pretty good size blanket. I am so in love with the scallop edge trim so that's what I choose here.

Catie had a boy and the theme of the room she decorated was Dr. Suess. I had sooooo much fun picking out the colors for this blanket. I turned out bigger than I had planned but who cares. I picked five colors to make granny squares with and trimmed it in black as a sixth color. You can't tell in the picture but part of the trim was a picot stitch. I had never tried that one. It turned out great.

Both ladies liked their blankets and I'm getting better at making them.

Enoying my weekend

Saturday night Keith started a fire. It was nice to sit by the fire and enjoy the warmth! We have been having a lot of fires lately. Last year we didn't use the fireplace at all, this year I think we've had fire at least five times so far.
I sat by the fire playing with Instagram on my phone. It's really fun to make the pictures look better with editing.

Riley just wants to be next to me. He doesn't care where...

Sunday morning, I slept late. I needed it!! At about 10ish I made breakfast. I can't seem to remember what these are called. I keep wanting to call them eggs in a hole. But, that not right! My mom made them growing up but, what the heck are they called........?!?! Anyway they were good.
(Should have tried using Instagram to make this pic better)

The park is ready for Christmas

I went for a run in the park yesterday and ran by this tree. If you only knew that the park I run in is very removed from the city so seeing this seemed very random.
Love it~ I may even bring an ornament to contribute to the adorable Charlie Brown Tree.

Girl's night out

Friday night I got to enjoy a night out with my two sisters, my daughter and my niece. When went to a play at the high school, All My Sons. It was amazing for a high school production.

Scarlett did pretty good. Recently, all the girls, including Scarlett, went to see the movie Footloose at the theater. She was great through that whole movie. This time there was a little fuss for just a minute. But, considering she's just three months that adorable kid is becoming cultured!

It snowed on us at the cabin today

Keith and I went to the cabin to take the boat there for the winter. When we got there it started dumping snow on us! That's an understatement, actually! Then, next thing you know as soon as we were done securing the tarp with rope and bungees to the boat it stopped snowing. I suppose it is November!

I took this picture right before we left of the water in the pond. I can hardly see the cabin in the distance...

Clipping yarn...

I found this picture and thought I needed to add it to my blog because I am "clipping" one more thing in my life, yarn.

I have been taking pictures of most of my crochet projects and I can't wait to share.

This Grey baby blanket with aqua trim is one I made for my cousin Stacey when she had her son Brock.

This pink with brown trim baby blanket I made for my niece Kristin after she had her daughter Claire and I made another one exactly like it but blue with brown trim at the same time for her sister-in-law, my nephew's wife Christie who had her baby boy Ethan. Wish I wouldn't have forgotten to take a picture of it.

The lilac blanket with grey trim was made for my sister, Elizabeth when she had her daughter Scarlett.

I made this purple and green baby blanket recently for the owner of my salon who is due any day now with a baby girl. I do have to say the colors in the picture don't do it justice. The purple was called grape and in my opinion it looks blue in the pic.

So, to date I have made seven baby blankets and working of the eighth. Pictures coming soon on #7 & #8! Because they are gifts I don't want to spoil the surprise by showing it here.

And, I have a couple more projects I'm working on. I pick them up when I need a change of pace to all the baby blankets.

This is the start to a blanket I'm making to go in our bus. I will be huge when it's done and it has been an ongoing project. Also, I have started another blanket that Jasmine requested it's grey and I am still working on it. Pics to come when it's finally finished.

Finally, this week I made this adorable hat for my niece Scarlett. OMG! I am in love with it! It's funny how this one got started. Jasmine asked if I could make her a grey and black striped hat with ear flaps so I looked up a pattern and got to work. Obviously, I needed the distraction for my current project. Anyway, I realized as I was making this hat that it wasn't going to be big enough for Jasmine's head but I just finished it anyway. Then, because I was on a roll, I decided to learn how to make a flower to go on it. I am so proud of my first hat. So much so that I couldn't stop showing everyone at work.
