Children Learn What They Live

Merry Christmas!

I heard this in church today and had to find it.
By Dorothy Law Nolte, Ph.D.

If children live with criticism, they learn to condemn.
If children live with hostility, they learn to fight.
If children live with fear, they learn to be apprehensive.
If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.
If children live with ridicule, they learn to feel shy.
If children live with jealousy, they learn to feel envy.
If children live with shame, they learn to feel guilty.
If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
If children live with tolerance, they learn patience.
If children live with praise, they learn appreciation.
If children live with acceptance, they learn to love.
If children live with approval, they learn to like themselves.
If children live with recognition, they learn it is good to have a goal.
If children live with sharing, they learn generosity.
If children live with honesty, they learn truthfulness.
If children live with fairness, they learn justice.
If children live with kindness and consideration, they learn respect.
If children live with security, they learn to have faith in themselves and in those about them.
If children live with friendliness, they learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

My Birthday

My day ended up being such a wonderful day! At first it wasn't shaping up to be that way but, in the end I really do have to say that was fabulous! It started rough because I just couldn't stop thinking of my Mom. I went and watched her memorial video because I missed her so much. That was silly but, I really think I needed her. How could I not pay respect to her, she brought me into this world and I love her for that.
My day ended with a couple great surprises. One of which, Keith and Jazzy surprised me with a cake!

I have to admit this was the best birthday I've had in a really time. In fact, I could go as far to say that it was the best birthday EVER!!

What If There Were No Moms?

I read this cute little book in the grocery store today called "What if there were no Moms?"

Mom's Memorial video

I have to share these things that make me happy!

Mom's Eulogy

I lost my Mom unexpectedly on Sept. 23, 2010.
Here is the eulogy I wrote for her....

We stand here in Age Order because that the way my Mom would like it!

Cindy

Wife
Mom
Grandma
Daughter
Sister
Aunt
Niece
Cousin
Veteran
& Most importantly FRIEND to all

Mom, these are the words I've found for you.
you WERE

Beautiful, Generous and had a Big Heart
Independent, Strong, and always a hard worker
Creative, Passionate & you thought of every detail
Positive, Uplifting & Encouraging us along the way
Funny, Adventurous and had a contiguous smile

• You loved playing games because it brought people together

• You loved to cook to gather the ones you loved

• You made every Birthday and Holiday Special
At Christmas, we had so many Christmas Trees in our house... In the living room was a Formal Victorian tree in the Kitchen had a Christmas tree with cookie cutters, In the Family Room was usually a Live tree with sentimental ornaments you couldn't bare to part with because their was a lot! You also gave us each a Christmas Tree for our bedrooms and let express ourselves

• When you met someone for the first time you wouldn't shake their hand, you would say "I'm a hugger" & grab them.

• You never liked to miss out on the any action. Now, you never wanted to be the center of attention but you were always on the sidelines cheering us on.

• You never pushed us, you let us be ourselves

• As kids, we all bragged to our friends that our Mom was SPECIAL. You were special because you were left handed and you had a leap year birthday. You turned 14 1/2 this year just like Jazzy is now.

• You moved back to CO 1 year ago & remarried Dad. We are thankful for this last year.

• You've raised 4 great adults and 2 wonderful grandkids. We will make you proud

• Mom, this room is filled with YOUR love, we all feel that right now.

You will always be our connector, You've gathered us once again, this time it's to honor YOU!

Working on me

I am getting back into the grove with Jasmine being back in school.

I've even made a menu plan for (the rest of) the week. I haven't sat down to write up a menu plan since May 17. Wow! I think the craziness of summer comes and I'm always ready for a break. But now, I am ready for routine. I honestly know I thrive off of routine, structure and to-do lists.

I wanted to put together a list that I'd like to get done each week and even possibly daily. I tend to put things off if I have the opportunity. So, because I do much better with the boundaries I place on myself, I am in need of a schedule. Now, if you know me at all, I have been known to rebel against authority from time to time. So, this timeline I'm placing is just a suggestion to myself. Ha Ha! I'm cracking myself up, one minute I'm saying I need to be type A and the next I'm making sure I don't box myself in. :)

Here's what I'm working on at the moment:

  • Answer the phone when it rings- because that way I don't have to return calls and that would be a time saver!

  • Call or email back right away- I feel a sense of accomplishment when I don't have to think about "Do I need to returning some one's call or replying to someone?"

Daily:

  • Make my bed- I really enjoy getting into bed at night with it previously made!
  • Eat breakfast daily- I really gotten out of the habit and I know I need to.
  • Workout- even if I only get 30 min. in, I'd like to try to have something in daily
  • Take my vitamin

That's a good start!

2010 is my year to RUN

I think I've become a runner!

I'm not sure...

Maybe I just won't admit it to myself yet. Honestly, I really don't enjoy running but I like to get my workout over with. I know that sounds crazy! I think I like these races to keep me motivated but if I stop doing the races I might loose interest in running. Silly huh?

In early December 2009, I decided I was going to getting into running more than I had ever in the past. I commited to the Pikes Peak Road Runners Winter Series. It's a series of four races in January and February 2010. The length of the races gradually got longer as I completed the series.

My first one in January was a 5K in Cheyene Mountain State Park and my sister ran with me, I'm on the left in the picture above. Then, I went on to run a 4mi., 5mi. and a 10K by the time I was done in February. Here are my times:
  • Jan. 9, 2010 5K
    Age-Group Place-24/32, Time-0:44:39
  • Jan. 23, 2010 4Mi.
    Age-Group Place-26/31, Time-0:50:03
  • Feb. 12, 2010 5Mi.
    Age-Group Place-22/24, Time-1:04:30
  • Feb. 27, 2010 10K
    Age-Group Place-19/23, Time-1:20:06

Then, this past Sunday I ran another one. This was a 5K for Parkinson's Awareness. I ran it with some friends and I'm really glad I did. I do feel really good after it's done.

    Here is my time:

    April 25, 2010 5K Age-GroupPlace-16/19, Time-0:37:36

I feel really good about my time compared to January!!

    And now........
I just committed to running in the Bolder Boulder in Boulder, CO on Memorial Day, it's a 10K and I have to say I AM really excited about this one. My brother is going to run with me. And, my dad and sister are going to walk the course.

I think I'm most excited to:
  1. Check it off my bucket list
  2. Run with my family
  3. Feel the energy coming from the CU stadium as we finish the race

Wish me luck!!

Easter 2010

I'm finally getting around to sharing my Easter pictures.
My nephew JJ came over the night before Easter to dye eggs. He was so funny! His mom have him a white crayon to color on the egg so he started coloring. The next thing we heard was him banging the egg on the table. Yep, he cracked it! No big deal! He didn't know why we're coloring eggs!

The next day was Easter and the minute he walked in the door he spotted the eggs hidden all around the living room. He wasn't in the door a minute and he was going to get the eggs. His mom handed him his basket and he was off. Although soon after he decided that the basket was heavy and he didn't want to carry it anymore.
At first he just collected the eggs but then he figured out there was something in those eggs. He pryed one open and found jelly beans. So, then he went around to find more realizing they all must have candy in them. Some had coins. But every time he found more jelly beans he'd stuff them in his mouth! Pretty soon he had so many in his mouth he couldn't talk and I think he even started to drool!
His Easter Basket from Aunt Becky, Uncle Keith and Jasmine had a Handy Manny coloring book and crayons in it. He has been wanting to "write" so this was a hit. I even got on the floor to color with him. He is so much fun!

Happy Easter!

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! I have to say I had a very nice day with my family.

I really wanted to write the chorus of the song "Because He Lives". It has stuck in my mind all day. I've heard it so many times but I can't get it out of my head today on this day of Easter.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow,
Because He lives all fear is gone;
Because I know He holds the future.
And life is worth the living just because He lives
He is Risen!
He is Risen Indeed!

Just another late night

Ugh! Have you ever had to get a posterboard after school for your child only to find out the project is due to next day!

That's what I did tonight!

When I left to house to pick up my 14-year-old from school, I only grabbed my keys, sunglasses, and phone. NO WALLET! I know, Iknow, I should have it with me whenever I drive anywhere. But, I knew I'd be just running over to her school to pick her up and come right home.

NOPE! I hear "Mom, I need a posterboard tonight" So, we found change in the console and I sent her in by herself to Walgreen's.

$.98! That's all! But, it's the principle of the matter. Then, I asked her how long she'd know about the project. "Since last week" oh and It was due yesterday.

WHAT?!????

"I forgot!"

FORGOT?

So, I was just a little frustrated, to say the least. And, needless to say, she's having a late night with homework.

I thank God everyday that I only have one child! But, God why does she have to be just like me?

Speaking of clippings and snippings

I am still trying to figure out my problem with uploading pictures. Frustrating! I know I'll get it at some point. But, in the meantime I thought I'd write something....

Keith had surgery yesterday. He had a hydrocele that needed to be drained AND opted to add-on a vasectomy. I'll let you google the hydrocele.

It was an outpatient procedure. His recovery time is 6 weeks with one week off of work. I thought that was a long time. Yeah, I thought oh, he'll be in and out but, I'm now realizing this could take a while.

Yesterday, he came home and took a nap which I expected. After his nap he seemed to doing fine. The discharge nurse said to take it easy the first 24 hours. He kept saying he was feeling good. I think the drugs were still talking.

Because he didn't sleep well at all last night!

I set my alarm clock every four hours to give him his pain meds. I do know how important pain management is. He just had a hard time sleeping on his back.

Today has been a little slower to say the least.

My job is to keep the ice packs coming.

I pray that he has a speedy recovery! I'll keep you updated.
